Carolina Herrera was born into an aristocratic family in Caracas, Venezuela. With that, she always had access to high fashion.
Before making her mark in the fashion industry, she worked as a publicist for Emilio Pucci, also working at his boutique in Caracas
For some time while she lived in New York, Herrera only designed fabrics, until a friend convinced her to start her own clothing line.
In 1981, she debuted her first collection at the Manhattan metropolitan club in New York City.

Even before 1981, Herrera was known to be a “style setter” among her friends and colleagues.
Her pieces are considered “elegant,” “timeless,” and truly feminine.

Herrera stepped down as Creative Director in 2008. But the brand has continued to flourish in recent years.
The Spring and Summer 2024 collection showcased “the vitality of New York,” inspired by the glamour of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.
